Summer School of Sociolinguistics 14-20 June 2010

This week-long summer school is organised especially for PhD students in the last years of their research. All participants will have a chance to take part in hands-on workshops led by renowned academics, present their papers and attend round-table discussions. The programme includes five day-long sessions on the following:
  • Stance and indexicality
  • Sociolinguistics and multilingualism
  • Discourse in context
  • Children and sociolinguistics
  • Sociophonetics and gender

Many of the research groups run seminars, details of which can be found on their pages.


The P-workshop programme consists of talks seminars and discussions on subjects relating to phonetics, phonology and speech technology.


Every spring the postgraduate students in the department organise and participate in the Postgraduate Conference.
Throughout the year, postgraduates also participate in running the bi-monthly Language at Edinburgh Lunch.
