My research is primarily focused on: dialectology, varieties of English/Scots (particularly in southern Scotland, northeast England, and Ulster), phonetic and phonological variation and change, dialect levelling, mergers and their reversal, quantitative methods, electronic corpora of non-standard speech (collection, analysis and presentation), phonetic and phonological analysis, historical linguistics.
